چکیده
www.thelancet.com Vol 371 March 8, 2008 795 Aggressive marketing practices for breastmilk substitutes have been blamed for the decline of breastfeeding in the Philippines, where only 16·1% of Filipino infants aged 4–5 months are exclusively breastfed, half stop exclusive breastfeeding by the third week of life, and 13% are never breastfed (the lowest ever-breastfed rates in 56 countries). The Department of Health estimates that total annual purchases of infant-formula amounted to US$420 million. Nearly $100 million is spent annually on the advertising of breastmilk substitutes, which is about half the annual budget for the Department of Health. There have been suspicions that violations of the Milk Code have occurred in the past with over-zealous sales techniques. Mothers receive various gifts and are targeted to attend classes where infant-formula milk is promoted. Orders have been made by the Department of Health to compel certain companies to cease unauthorised promotions. The Supreme Court’s ruling gives a fresh mandate and greater power to the Government’s regulatory agency to check the industry’s practices that undermine breastfeeding and subvert the public-health system. But much remains to be done and the struggle goes on to restore the culture of breastfeeding in the Philippines.

Proliferation dangers associated with nuclear medicine: getting weapons-grade uranium out of radiopharmaceutical production.
Abolishing the threat of nuclear war requires the outlawing of nuclear weapons and dismantling current nuclear weapon stockpiles, but also depends on eliminating access to fissile material (nuclear weapon fuel). The near-universal use of weapons-grade, highly enriched uranium (HEU) to produce radiopharmaceuticals is a significant proliferation hazard. Health professionals have a strategic oppor...

Background: The earlier Atomic Bomb explosion in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and three worth mentioning nuclear accidents - detonation at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, Chernobyl nuclear fallout and an accident at Three Mile Island nuclear power plant have made us more worried about the secure exploitation of nuclear energy. The central focus of this paper is to review radiation-mediated health e...

Introduction: Radiochemical purity (RCP) is a routine quality control test carried out at nuclear medicine to determine the concentration of various chemical species present in the radiopharmaceuticals (RPs). The present work describes three years of experience in a single institute for the measurement of these impurities in the RPs preparations. Methods: </strong...

Even some of the recent works used combined methods like chemotherapy and radionuclide therapy or using radionuclide therapy as adjuvant ...
متن کاملAn analysis of misconceptions about thorium-based fuel cycles as a technical fix to the nuclear proliferation problem
This paper analyzes several prevalent misconceptions about nuclear fuel cycles that breed fissile uranium-233 from thorium. Its main conclusions are: a Uranium-233, despite the gamma radioactivity of associated isotopes, is a rather attractive material for making fission bombs, and is a credible material for subnational as well as national groups to use for this purpose. e "Pure" thorium cycles...
